weaving nature, 2017

Community with Karachi (CwK) was a collective that was established as an act of recognition that taking care of your environment is an extension of taking care of yourself and that taking care of yourself relates to taking care of your community. The project formed with community artists, furniture designers and textile artists and writers to experiment, research and share how natural dyeing used to dye animal and plant based fibers benefit the human body and the environment as opposed to chemically based dyes in Guatavita, Colombia.

my two homes, 2018-2019

This class built students’ understanding of their cultural backgrounds and ethnicities as well as their transition from their countries of origin to the United States. Based on an understanding on these themes, students explored ways to communicate these ideas through a variety of mediums, such as performance and art making.

my two homes, 2019-2020

Students were guided through a series of art projects that enabled them to bridge traditional art forms of their native homes with those of indigenous American cultures, lessening the distance between their diasporas. Projects built on themes of memory, family, culture and place encouraged students to reflect on the experiences of their transformative journeys.
