Dueles Colombia

"When a person disappears, everything becomes impregnated with that person's presence. Every single object as well as every space becomes a reminder of absence, as if absence were more important than presence. In art, everything is particular." ~ Doris Salcedo

My latest work is a human landscape which depicts some Colombian social leaders who have been silenced for protecting their people and land from illegal mining and narcotraffic. This map aims to honor the memory of these leaders who died fighting endlessly for their communities. Each portrait is placed in the region where each social leader was born and assassinated. The symbolic process of dismembering parts of these social leaders' bodies alludes to the process of their actual assassination.
